CARING NETWORK - FAQs
What is the Caring Network?
We are a VOCA (Victims of Criminal Acts) program with matching
grants from a variety of foundations and community organizations.
The services of Caring Network are provided at no cost to all
victims.
What is the purpose of the Caring Network program?
Do you know a child between the ages of 4 and 12 who has witnessed violence or has been the
victim of a crime? Actually, the real question is: What child today
has not been exposed to violence? Children who experience abuse
and/or violence in their lives may exhibit the following traits:
-
They may be fearful or moody.
-
They may worry about their safety.
-
They may have difficulty
concentrating in school.
-
They may withdraw from friends and
activities.
-
They may have increased aggressive
behavior and angry feelings.
How does the Caring Network Program
Help?
Any child can benefit from a group offered by the Caring
Network. These groups are both psycho educational and therapeutic.
In group, we help children to:
-
Define abuse and violence.
-
Reduce any isolation and shame they
may feel.
-
Manage the anger they may feel.
-
Learn better ways to solve
conflicts
-
Create a safety plan for themselves
and their families
-
Improve their self image.
-
Recognize all of their
feelings.
Where are groups offered?
Groups are generally offered at the child's school, as an
after-school program. They are 8-10 weeks in duration, meeting
weekly, and age appropriate. If a group is not currently being
offered at a child's school, the child may be seen individually (at
their school) or in office.
The Caring Network can also help women face the difficulties they
may be experiencing with their children after having experienced a
frightening event. The staff can also facilitate with referrals to
other professionals, advocate for the family and facilitate with
victim compensation.
Who makes up the Caring Network?
The Caring Network team is made up of clinical staff and master
level interns who provide individual and group treatment to parents,
children and other family members. Services are provided in schools,
community settings and office.
For over ten years, Caring Network has been able to assist families
and children. Caring Network possesses over twenty-nine years of
combined experience in the areas of domestic violence, parenting
education, mental health and trauma issues.
